Netflix and the BBC have released a first-look image confirming that Charlie Heaton has joined the upcoming continuation of Peaky Blinders, stepping into the role of Charles Shelby, the eldest son of Tommy Shelby.
Netflix wrote on Instagram: “Charlie Heaton joins the next generation of PEAKY BLINDERS as Charles Shelby. Charles is now embracing normality and hasn’t seen his half-brother Duke (Jamie Bell) in years. He’s severed all ties to the Peaky Blinders gang, and the hedonistic Shelby lifestyle. But can you ever escape your own blood?”
Heaton, best known for playing Jonathan Byers in Stranger Things, returns to Netflix for the new series. His character, Charles Shelby, is the son of Tommy Shelby, portrayed by Cillian Murphy. Jamie Bell is also set to appear as Duke Shelby, Charles’s half-brother, taking over the role previously linked to Barry Keoghan.
The sequel, created and written by Steven Knight, is set in the aftermath of World War II and continues the story following the events of the Netflix film The Immortal Man. The narrative explores the Shelby family in the 1950s and is planned across two six-episode seasons.
New cast members also include Jessica Brown Findlay (Silo, The Flatshare), Lashana Lynch (No Time to Die, The Day of the Jackal), and Lucy Karczewski (Stereophonic) in her television debut.
Filming is currently underway in Birmingham at Digbeth Loc. Studios. The series is produced by Kudos under Banijay, alongside Garrison Drama.
