Aura Entertainment has released the first trailer for “The Beast,” an action thriller starring Samuel L. Jackson as the president of the United States, who is forced to take matters into his own hands when a militia launches a coordinated coup. Directed by Renny Harlin (known for action films including “Die Hard 2” and “Cliffhanger”), the film is set to arrive in U.S. theaters Oct. 9.
Jackson’s president becomes trapped inside the heavily armored presidential limousine known as The Beast after the attack, but the vehicle proves to be more than a means of transportation. The trailer reveals that the state car contains highly classified offensive technology, which the president must learn to use as he attempts to survive the assault, protect an injured Secret Service agent and make his way back to safety.
Joel Kinnaman co-stars as Secret Service agent Taft, who is wounded during the attack, while Guy Burnet, Eoin Macken and Colin Morgan also appear. Aura acquired the U.S. distribution rights earlier this year, with the company planning a theatrical release. The Beast was written by Umair Aleem, whose credits include “Kate” and “Extraction,” and is produced by Keith Kjarval, Wayne Marc Godfrey, Nicki Cortese, Rob Van Norden and John Logan Pierson, among others.
