Madonna has scored her 10th No. 1 on Billboard’s Dance Airplay chart as “Danceteria,” from her latest album “Confessions II.” The achievement makes Madonna just the fifth artist in the chart’s history to accumulate at least 10 No. 1s.
Released July 3 alongside “Confessions II,” “Danceteria” becomes the third track from the album to top Dance Airplay, following “Love Sensation”and “I Feel So Free” – the latter of which marked Madonna’s first No. 1 radio hit in 18 years.
The milestone also moves Madonna past Ellie Goulding for the fifth-most No. 1s in Dance Airplay history. She trails David Guetta with 21, Calvin Harris with 19, Rihanna with 12 and The Chainsmokers with 11. The chart launched in 2003, while Madonna’s previous leaders include “Hung Up,” “Sorry,” “Get Together,” “Jump,” “4 Minutes,” “Give It 2 Me” and “Miles Away.”
“Danceteria” has continued to receive new versions during its chart run, including a Harry Romero remix released in August and “Danceteria Afterhours,” a reworked version featuring Charli xcx that arrived last month. The latest No. 1 adds to a strong year for Madonna, whose “Confessions II” also became her 10th No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 in July.
