Mariah Carey is giving her long-overlooked Glitter soundtrack a major anniversary celebration, announcing that an expanded 25th anniversary edition will arrive Oct. 30. The release will mark the album’s first return to vinyl since its original 2001 release and will also include a Digital Deluxe Edition with 15 additional tracks, including rare and previously unreleased recordings.

The announcement follows months of speculation after Glitter disappeared from major streaming platforms earlier this year. The new edition arrives after years of renewed interest in Glitter, with the soundtrack developing a cult following despite its difficult original reception, with the 2018 #JusticeForGlitter campaign helping propel the album back into the spotlight. Carey’s decision to revisit the project now gives the soundtrack an opportunity to be heard in a new context, 25 years after its initial release.

To preview the upcoming digital deluxe edition, Carey enlisted Compton-based singer, rapper and producer Channel Tres to remix the standout track, “All My Life.”  Tres shares: “It was an honor to remix ‘All My Life’ for Mariah Carey. Glitter was such a big part of my childhood, and I never would’ve imagined in a million years that I’d get to remix a song from it. The fact that Mariah co-produced this song with Rick James, another one of my musical idols, makes it even more special. Getting to sit with those stems was a moment I’ll never forget. This one means a lot to me. Thank you, Mariah.”  Check out the ‘All My Life’ (Channel Tres Remix) lyric video – HERE.

Carey has acknowledged that her feelings about Glitter have changed considerably since its release. The soundtrack accompanied the 2001 film, which was released shortly after the Sept. 11 attacks and struggled commercially and critically. Carey said the anniversary edition also gave her an opportunity to revisit material that had remained unreleased for years. “If someone had told me back in 2001 that I’d one day be unironically celebrating Glitter’s 25th anniversary, I never would have believed them. I made this album with so much love and care, so it was devastating to watch it become a punchline. I’m endlessly grateful to my fans who kept championing it all these years, and I hope even more people can finally hear it for what it is. We found a few recordings buried in the vault that I am really looking forward to sharing with you in October!”

The expanded collection will also feature a newly reimagined version of “Didn’t Mean to Turn You On,” with British-Canadian singer-songwriter Rochelle Jordan and production from KLSH.
