A new comedy from Glen Powell and Judd Apatow officially has a name—and cameras are already rolling. The Universal Pictures project, now titled The Comeback King, centers on a once-successful country music star whose career has taken a sharp downturn.
Powell announced the title on social media, writing, “THE COMEBACK KING,” alongside the caption, “Turn it up. Feb 2027.”
Set for a theatrical release on February 5, 2027, the story follows Powell’s character as he confronts the fallout of his own choices and attempts to rebuild both his reputation and personal life amid the pressures of fame. Production is currently underway in Georgia and is expected to continue through June. The supporting cast of The Comeback King includes Cristin Milioti, Madelyn Cline, Stavros Halkias, and Li Jin Hao.
Apatow directs and produces the film, while Powell both stars and co-produces, with the two also co-writing the screenplay. The film marks another collaboration between Apatow and Universal Pictures, a partnership that dates back to The 40-Year-Old Virgin and includes hits like Knocked Up, Trainwreck, and The King of Staten Island.
