A early morning mass shooting in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood left six individuals hospitalized, two of them in critical condition. According to the Chicago Police Department, an unidentified gunman opened fire around 2:09 a.m. Sunday in the 900 block of North Central Park Avenue, near Augusta Boulevard, striking a group gathered outdoors. A dispatcher relayed that a 911 caller reported hearing up to 30 gunshots, according to ABC Chicago station WLS.
Among those wounded, a 35-year-old man who sustained multiple gunshot wounds was rushed to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition. Another victim, a 36-year-old man, also suffered several gunshot wounds and was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
The remaining four victims, ranging in age from 33 to 46, were reported to be in good condition following emergency medical treatment. A 39-year-old man shot in the thigh and a 46-year-old woman suffering from gunshot wounds to her back and foot were taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County. Additionally, a 34-year-old woman was treated at Mount Sinai Hospital for a hip wound, while a 33-year-old man was treated for a gunshot wound to the finger at Humboldt Park Health.
As of Sunday afternoon, no suspects were in custody, and authorities have not publicly identified a potential motive for the attack. Area detectives are currently conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident.
