Mariah Carey is revisiting one of the defining albums of her career with the release of “Daydream (30th Anniversary Edition),” an expanded collection celebrating three decades since the landmark 1995 album debuted. The anniversary edition pairs the original chart-topping record with a wide selection of previously unreleased recordings, writing-session demos, remixes, a cappella performances and live tracks, offering fans an in-depth look at one of pop music’s most celebrated eras.
Originally released in October 1995, Daydream spent six weeks atop the Billboard 200 and produced some of Carey’s signature hits, including “Fantasy,” “Always Be My Baby” and “One Sweet Day” with Boyz II Men, the latter of which set a then-record for the longest run at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The anniversary edition expands on the album’s legacy by featuring sought-after rarities, including the previously unreleased song “One Night,” the fan favorite “Slipping Away,” early songwriting demos for “Melt Away” and “I Am Free,” plus additional remixes and archival live recordings.
In announcing the project, Carey reflected on how Daydream represented a series of personal and creative milestones. She said the album marked her first rap collaboration with Ol’ Dirty Bastard on the groundbreaking “Fantasy” remix, her first collaboration with producer Jermaine Dupri, her first world tour and the first music video she directed entirely on her own. Those career firsts, she noted, inspired the inclusion of several never-before-heard recordings and behind-the-scenes material in the expanded release.
