The alleged principal operator of a major drug distribution network linked to Penn State University fraternities was remanded without bond after surrendering to law enforcement officers. Agostino Abbatiello, 24, surrendered on Tuesday morning following his absence from an initial scheduled court appearance. During his subsequent appearance in Centre County, Magisterial District Judge Kelley Gillette-Walker formally denied bail on 11 felony charges, including counts of possession with intent to deliver and criminal conspiracy.

Law enforcement authorities identified Abbatiello alongside co-defendant Thomas Robinson as the core suppliers behind the lucrative illicit venture. According to presentments from a statewide grand jury, the duo systematically transported significant quantities of narcotics from distribution points in New York and Philadelphia directly to the campus area. State investigators and local police uncovered evidence that the operational activities took place between 2023 and 2024, relying on off-campus Greek housing locations to facilitate the trade.

The criminal enterprise utilized the physical facilities of both Delta Upsilon and Sigma Chi fraternity properties to process and segment the shipments. Official records indicate that fraternity pledges were coerced into modifying and packaging the narcotics as part of mandatory “indoctrination” hazing rituals. The resulting illicit products were subsequently distributed directly to the broader student population enrolled at the university.

In total, 14 individuals face prosecution in connection with the multi-agency law enforcement sweep. Thirteen of the accused were active or former students during the period of the alleged offenses, while the sole non-student defendant, Thomas Robinson’s father, stands accused of felony obstruction for attempting to conceal a safe holding cash and narcotics. Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday addressed the custody status of the primary suspects, stating, “We are pleased to report that the most significant members of this cocaine-trafficking organization are accounted for, and will have their fair process in court.”

Following the public release of the grand jury findings, university administration officials instituted an interim suspension against the Delta Upsilon chapter, prohibiting all meetings and organizational functions. University representatives clarified that Sigma Chi operates as an unrecognized entity without official campus oversight, while the national fraternity organization confirmed that its implicated members have been suspended. School administrators voiced shock regarding the allegations and affirmed complete cooperation with law enforcement agencies as legal proceedings advance toward preliminary hearings.
