Miley has launched the next chapter of her music career with “Bass Persuades,” the title track and lead single from her upcoming 10th studio album, accompanied by a new music video directed by Mert Alas. The song blends dance-pop with post-punk and ’80s-inspired synths, while its video places Miley in a dark, nightlife setting surrounded by dancers.
The video follows Miley as she takes over an underground poker setting before bringing the party into the streets. The choreography-heavy visual reflects the song’s focus on reconnecting through music and movement. The track’s lyrics also take aim at modern distractions and the changing culture of nightlife, including the refrain, “the kids don’t wanna dance.”
“Bass Persuades” is the first preview of the album, which is scheduled for release Sept. 18 through Atlantic Records. Miley announced the project earlier this week while also adopting the mononym professionally. The album is set to include collaborations with New York art-punk band Model/Actriz and Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow.
Miley described the album’s title as a reflection of music’s ability to capture a broad range of emotions. “Music takes hold of us. We feel it, sing it, sometimes dance to it, let it out and carry on,” she wrote in announcing the project. “It is powerful, vulnerable, sweet and strong. Heart full, heartache, every part of life in between. That’s what the title means to me.”
The song release follows Miley’s 2025 album, “Something Beautiful,” and comes as she prepares to return to the stage, where she is scheduled to perform two concerts at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl on Oct. 16 and Oct. 18. Ticket info can be found at Miley’s website.
