The Killers and Olivia Dean will headline the inaugural Ocean Way Festival, a new beachfront music event launching Sept. 26-27 in Santa Monica, California. Produced by Goldenvoice, the company behind Coachella, the two-day festival will take place on the sand between the Santa Monica Pier and Bay Street, marking the city’s first major music festival staged directly on its shoreline.
The lineup spans rock, indie, electronic and soul, with performances from Jack White, Khruangbin, Sublime, Durand Jones & The Indications, Alvvays, SG Lewis, Hiatus Kaiyote, BLOND:ISH, Poolside, Hot Chip (DJ set), Carlita, Austin Millz, Coco & Breezy, 54 Ultra, Good Neighbours, Vandelux and several other artists. Organizers said the festival will feature a primary stage for headline performances alongside a smaller, more intimate second stage, while the venue will include a combination of standing-room areas and open spaces where attendees can relax on blankets in keeping with the beach setting.
City officials said the event is intended to become a signature cultural attraction as Santa Monica continues to expand its live entertainment offerings. In announcing the festival, Mayor Caroline Torosis said, “Santa Monica is in the middle of a renaissance. The city is welcoming the world to its shores, and Ocean Way Festival is how we’re making sure our own community is at the center of it.” The festival’s name pays tribute to Ocean Way, the famed recording studio founded by Allen Sides on the nearby street.
