A new documentary chronicling the life and career of BLACKPINK member Lisa will make its world premiere at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival, adding one of K-pop’s biggest global stars to the event’s prestigious Gala Presentations lineup. Sony Music Vision also revealed that the documentary, Always Lalisa, will debut in IMAX and cinemas worldwide for a limited engagement beginning October 12th, before streaming exclusively on YouTube Premium later this year.
Always Lalisa, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Sue Kim, is among the films selected for the festival’s 51st edition, which runs Sept. 10-20 in Toronto. Festival organizers announced the documentary as part of the first wave of Gala and Special Presentations titles. Kim, whose previous work includes acclaimed documentaries centered on compelling personal stories, directs the project, which was first announced by Sony Music Vision in 2025. The film’s selection for TIFF gives it a high-profile launch at one of the world’s leading film festivals, where it will debut alongside new works from filmmakers including Pedro Almodóvar, Danny Boyle, Jesse Eisenberg, Hirokazu Kore-eda and Chris Rock.
The feature-length documentary offers an intimate look at Lalisa Manobal’s rise from her early years in Thailand to international superstardom with BLACKPINK while also exploring her evolution as a solo artist and actress. The project follows a transformative chapter in her career as she expands beyond the chart-topping group through music, acting and other creative ventures. According to a synopsis, the movie follows LISA during a pivotal year in her life, when, “for the first time since childhood, she steps away from BLACKPINK for a year of independence. With the clock ticking before her return to the group, LISA confronts the fear and pressure of launching a solo career, pursuing acting, and building a brand, while yearning to maintain a personal life beyond the spotlight.”
Beyond her music career, LISA is set to star in and executive produce two upcoming Netflix productions: the action movie TYGO and an untitled romantic comedy inspired by Notting Hill. She is also preparing for her sold-out four-night Las Vegas residency, VIVA LA LISA, at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, with performances scheduled for Nov. 13-14 and Nov. 27-28.
Tickets for Always Lalisa are on sale via the film’s website.
