Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan have joined forces on a new version of Rodrigo’s “expectations,” released alongside a music video featuring both artists. The remix, produced by their longtime collaborator Dan Nigro, reworks a track from Rodrigo’s third studio album, “you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love.” The release marks Roan’s first official guest feature, and Rodrigo’s first remix – which is available digitally, with limited-edition 7-inch vinyl, CDs and cassettes also offered for fans.
The updated track gives Roan a new verse, adding her perspective to the song’s themes of dating frustrations, romantic disappointment and expectations in relationships. The collaboration follows the artists’ shared history through Nigro and Roan’s appearance at Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields festival in California in August (the women-led event raised $20 million for 10 nonprofit organizations supporting women and girls.). Roan also opened for Rodrigo during her 2024 Guts World Tour.
Directed by Bardia Zeinali, the accompanying video takes inspiration from vintage television game shows. Rodrigo and Roan appear as contestants on “The Big Expectations Show,” hosted by Talking Heads frontman David Byrne, who plays a fictional presenter named Johnny Johnson. The visual also features Nigro and incorporates playful references to classic game show formats. Check it out: HERE.
