The anniversary edition pairs the previously unreleased concert recording with the original studio version, giving listeners a fresh perspective on one of the singer-songwriter’s most enduring fan favorites.
Originally unveiled on July 8, 2016, “Ruin” served as an early preview of Mendes’ sophomore album Illuminate, signaling a more mature musical direction that blended pop with blues and rock influences. While later singles including “Treat You Better” and “Mercy” became major commercial successes, “Ruin” earned lasting appreciation from fans for its emotional vocal performance and guitar-driven sound.
