Sony Pictures has released the first full trailer for Jumanji: Open World, offering a preview of what is being billed as the final chapter in the modern Jumanji film series. The latest installment reunites returning stars Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan, while bringing the franchise’s familiar video game avatars into the real world for the first time.
The project was first unveiled during Sony’s CinemaCon presentation earlier this year, where the cast described the film as an emotional conclusion to the reboot trilogy. Johnson also noted that the movie includes a tribute to the original 1995 Jumanji, honoring Robin Williams’ legacy in the franchise.
Directed by Jake Kasdan, Jumanji: Open World flips the premise established in the previous two films. Instead of players being pulled into the game, the trailer reveals Jumanji spilling into reality after the game’s characters escape the console. With the avatars trapped in malfunctioning “demo mode,” dangerous creatures and game mechanics invade everyday life, forcing Spencer Gilpin and his friends to reunite and prevent the boundaries between the game and the real world from collapsing. The footage also hints at more body-swapping twists that became a hallmark of the rebooted series.
Alongside Johnson, Hart, Black and Gillan, the ensemble includes Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner, Ser’Darius Blain, Danny DeVito, Nick Jonas, Awkwafina and Rhys Darby, with several new cast members joining the adventure. The trailer showcases a mix of large-scale action, fantasy creatures and the comedic chemistry that helped make Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Jumanji: The Next Level global box office successes.
