Madonna has added another milestone to her four-decade career as her new album, Confessions II debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 – earning the legendary pop icon her 10th chart-topping album in the United States. According to Billboard data, the album opened with 134,000 equivalent album units during its first tracking week, marking the biggest week for a dance album in 2026 and Madonna’s strongest overall chart performance since Billboard adopted its current album-equivalent methodology in 2014.

Released as a follow-up to 2005’s Confessions on a Dance Floor, the album reunites Madonna with producer Stuart Price and explores themes of love, loss, healing and resilience through a dance-pop sound. The project has been supported by an extensive promotional campaign that included a surprise Coachella appearance, a Times Square performance, a short film premiere at the Tribeca Festival and other special events leading up to its release.

Following the chart announcement, Madonna thanked fans in a social media message, writing: “Words cannot express how Grateful and Surprised I am By the incredible reception, Confessions on a Dance Floor has received !! Thank You -to everyone who has been a part of this and who has helped make this dream come true. Especially my Fans . The Goodwill and positivity has been incredible. I’m still pinching myself. I can’t believe it’s # 1 all around the world. . My dream was to make people dance this summer!! To bring people JOY! Dreams do come true. Thanks and love! ”

The No. 1 debut adds another chapter to a career that began with Like a Virgin more than 40 years ago and reinforces Madonna’s standing as one of the most commercially successful artists in Billboard history. It also places her among a select group of artists with at least 10 No. 1 albums, joining The Beatles, Taylor Swift and Drake. It also makes her the first artist to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200 during the 2020s after previously topping the chart in the 1980s, 2000s and 2010s, further cementing her longevity as one of popular music’s most successful recording artists. Traditional album sales accounted for 114,000 units, while 20.1 million on-demand streams and strong vinyl demand—including approximately 59,000 LP sales—helped propel the release to the summit.
