Lola Young recently dropped her latest single titled “From Down Here,” a reflective, soul-leaning track co-written and co-produced with James Blake. The song was created shortly after the 2026 Grammys, where Young earned Best Pop Solo Performance for her breakout hit “Messy,” following a burst of post-show inspiration.
“The day after the Grammys, I had a wave of inspiration hit me, so I got in the studio with the incredible James Blake and made this song,” Young says in a statement. “I am rewriting the next chapter of my story because what a boring book the old one would’ve been anyway.”
The new track arrives after a turbulent period for the singer. It follows her 2025 album I’m Only F***** Myself* and marks her first release since she collapsed onstage at the All Things Go festival in New York City. The incident led her to step back from touring, cancel North American dates, and focus on her physical and mental health, including treatment and attending AA meetings. Speaking in a Rolling Stone cover story, Young reflected on her recovery journey and how the experience reshaped her outlook. She described the collapse as “a breaking point which allowed me to then be able to be here today, allowed me to be better for my fans, better for the future, and better for myself.”
The music video for “From Down Here” is available now on YouTube and features Young partially submerged in water, with only her head above the surface, emphasizing the song’s introspective tone.
