Miley Cyrus has released the official music video for “Different Religion,” her collaboration with New York rock trio Model/Actriz from her latest album, “Bass Persuades.” Directed by fashion photographer and filmmaker Mert Alas, the cinematic visual leans into religious imagery, desert landscapes and a stark rock aesthetic, alternating sun-drenched outdoor scenes with saturated red lighting and black-and-white performance sequences.
The track features Model/Actriz vocalist Cole Haden alongside Cyrus, with the band also receiving featured-vocal and production credits. According to the song’s official credits, Cyrus, Kid Harpoon and Model/Actriz produced the track, while Haden shares vocal duties with Cyrus. The collaboration gives the album’s second track a darker, more experimental character than some of its other material.
“Different Religion” originally arrived as part of “Bass Persuades,” Cyrus’ 10th studio album, which was released Sept. 18 through Atlantic Records. The 10-track project also includes “Let’s Get Married,” “Orbit,” “Aftermath,” “REDLIGHTS,” “Neon Signs” featuring Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow, “Innocent Ways” and “Snow,” along with a remix of the title track. Cyrus is now performing professionally under the name Miley.
The video arrives as “Bass Persuades” continues its rollout following its debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200; while Model/Actriz also has a connection to Cyrus’ upcoming live plans: the group is set to join her for her two sold-out Hollywood Bowl performances in Los Angeles on Oct. 16 and 18.
