BLACKPINK’s ROSÉ has returned with “New Trick,” releasing the new single and accompanying music video Friday as her first solo music of 2026. The energetic track blends garage-punk, pop-rock and alt-pop elements while focusing on recovering from heartbreak and finding the resolve to move forward. Amy Allen, who co-wrote ROSÉ’s 2024 hit “APT.,” and Andrew Wells co-produced the song.
The music video was directed by Dave Meyers, whose credits include work with Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar and Ariana Grande. Created as part of Apple’s “Shot on iPhone” campaign, the entire visual was filmed using the iPhone 18 Pro. The video presents ROSÉ in a playful, summery setting as she performs with a band and spends time at a skatepark, complementing the song’s upbeat approach to shaking off emotional setbacks.
“New Trick” marks a stylistic shift from some of the more introspective material on ROSÉ’s 2024 debut solo album, rosie. The singer previously explained that the song was written shortly after the Met Gala during a busy week and said she had been moving away from the melancholy songwriting that characterized much of her debut. She described the new track as “possibly the cutest thing we’ve ever made together” while discussing its creation with Vogue.
The release follows ROSÉ’s recent solo work outside rosie, including “Messy,” featured in F1: The Movie, and “On My Mind,” her collaboration with Alex Warren. “New Trick” also arrives as BLACKPINK members continue their individual projects, with Lisa preparing her Press Play EP and Jisoo having recently released “Click.”
