Britney Spears has officially released “She’ll Never Be Me,” a previously unreleased song recorded during sessions for her 2001 album “Britney.” The track’s official arrival on streaming platforms gives fans access to a recording that circulated online for years, but had never received an official release.
Originally released in 2001, “Britney” featured hits including “I’m a Slave 4 U,” “Overprotected” and “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman.” The new song will bespart of the upcoming “Britney (25th Anniversary Edition),” an expanded release celebrating the singer’s third studio album. Scheduled to arrive Nov. 6, the anniversary edition features 11 additional tracks beyond the original album’s 12 songs, including “She’ll Never Be Me,” “Am I A Sinner,” “When I Say So” and “My Big Secret,” according to Retropop Magazine.
‘She’ll Never Be Me‘ also carries a notable songwriting credit: Justin Timberlake, Spears’ former boyfriend, is among its co-writers, alongside Spears, Alex Greggs and Bradley Daymond. The song’s history and eventual release have drawn renewed attention to material from the early 2000s, when Spears was establishing herself as one of pop music’s biggest stars.
