Johnny Depp returns to a major Hollywood studio release in the first trailer for Ebenezer, a darker reimagining of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Directed by horror filmmaker Ti West, the Paramount Pictures adaptation casts Depp as Ebenezer Scrooge in a gothic interpretation of the classic holiday story that blends supernatural horror with Dickens’ familiar tale of redemption.

The trailer showcases Depp in heavy prosthetic makeup and period costume, portraying a cold-hearted Scrooge who terrorizes those around him before confronting the ghosts that force him to face his past, present and future. Familiar elements from the novel remain intact, including Scrooge’s signature exclamation, “Humbug,” while the footage emphasizes a darker visual style and suspense-driven atmosphere. The cast also includes Ian McKellen as Marley, Andrea Riseborough as the Ghost of Christmas Past, Rupert Grint as Bob Cratchit, Sam Claflin as Fred and Daisy Ridley in a supporting role.

The trailer debuted shortly after Depp surprised fans with an in-character appearance during San Diego Comic-Con, where he emerged dressed as Scrooge to introduce the footage. That event followed the release of the film’s first poster and marked one of the studio’s highest-profile marketing pushes for the adaptation.

‘Ebenezer’ is scheduled to arrive in theaters Nov. 13; see the trailer – HERE.
