Lil Nas X has returned with “World’s Greatest,” his first new song of 2026, accompanied by a cinematic music video that connects his recent experiences with memories of his childhood and a tribute to his late mother, Tamikia Hill. The release follows his 2025 EP “Days Before Dreamboy” and marks his latest musical step after a period away from the spotlight.
The release of ‘World’s Greatest‘ comes after a difficult stretch for the 27-year-old artist. In 2025, Lil Nas X was arrested in Los Angeles and later faced multiple charges stemming from his encounter with police. In 2026, he publicly discussed receiving a bipolar disorder diagnosis and spending several months in treatment.
‘World’s Greatest’ was written entirely by Lil Nas X and produced by C.WRAY and Steve Rusch. Ahead of the release, Lil Nas X shared a voicemail from his mother, who died in August, and highlighted one of her favorite sayings: “Walk by faith, not by sight.” He wrote that the phrase has taken on increasing meaning as he moves through his life.
The video for the track, directed by Phillip Youmans and filmed in Lil Nas X’s hometown of Atlanta, moves between the singer’s present-day life and dramatized moments from his childhood. It begins with Lil Nas X rehearsing in a dance studio before childhood memories are woven into the story, ultimately bringing his younger self into the present-day narrative. The video concludes with a dedication to Hill.
