HBO Max has renewed “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe” for a second season, giving the “Big Bang Theory” spinoff an early vote of confidence after its freshman run. Creator Chuck Lorre indicated that Season 2 is being planned as another 10-episode run.

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe stars Kevin Sussman as Stuart Bloom, the comic book store owner he portrayed on “The Big Bang Theory,” alongside Lauren Lapkus as Denise, Brian Posehn as Bert Kibbler and John Ross Bowie as Barry Kripke.  The show follows Stuart after he accidentally causes a multiverse crisis while working with a device originally built by Sheldon Cooper and Leonard Hofstadter. Denise, Bert and Kripke join him as he attempts to repair the damage across alternate realities.

The renewal arrives as the series continues to incorporate familiar faces from the original sitcom. Kaley Cuoco and Mayim Bialik have already appeared in alternate versions of their “Big Bang Theory” characters, while the creators have indicated that guest appearances have been shaped by both story requirements and actor availability. Amy Gravitt, executive vice president of HBO Programming and head of HBO and HBO Max Comedy Series, said in a statement: “we’re delighted with how this hilarious, genre-bending show from Chuck, Zak, and Bill has connected with the audience, both devotees of ‘The Big Bang Theory’ and new fans alike. Along with everyone else, we can’t wait to see the worlds they conjure for these beloved characters next season.”  In addition, Warner Bros. Television Group Chairman and CEO Channing Dungey similarly praised the series as “a completely original take on one of the most beloved franchises of all time.”

HBO Max has not announced a premiere date, episode count or production timetable for Season 2.
