Lionsgate has unveiled the first trailer for Power Ballad, a feel-good comedy starring Nick Jonas and Paul Rudd.
The story centers on Rick, a once-popular wedding singer played by Rudd, who crosses paths with Danny, a fading boy-band performer portrayed by Jonas. After bonding during a late-night jam session, the pair collaborate on music — but their partnership turns sour when Danny transforms one of Rick’s songs into a hit that revives his own career. Determined to get the credit he feels he deserves, Rick sets out to reclaim recognition, even if it puts everything he values at risk.
The official synopsis reads: “When Rick, a past-his-prime wedding singer, meets fading boy-band star Danny during a gig, the two bond over music and a late-night jam session. But when Danny turns one of Rick’s songs into the hit that reignites his career, Rick sets out to reclaim the recognition he believes he deserves — even if it means risking everything he cares about.”
Directed by John Carney—known for Once and Sing Street—the movie was co-written by Carney and Peter McDonald, who also appears in the cast. Additional cast members include Havana Rose Liu, Marcella Plunkett and Jack Reynor.
The film, which made its North American premiere at the SXSW Film Festival back in March, arrives in theaters nationwide June 5; see the trailer – HERE.
